S ST 533 – Documentary Fieldwork – Prof. Annemarie Anderson

  • In this course, students learn the basic principles of successful documentary production, including ideating original documentary work, gaining literacy in technical skills, and proficiency in Adobe editing software. They gain a greater awareness of the historical context of documentary practice through analysis and reflection upon the work of various documentarians. In addition, students cultivate an ethical framework for their documentary practice and create their own original documentary projects.

S ST 534 – Documentary Photography – Prof. Shiraz Ahmed

  • In Documentary Photography, students learn the art of capturing the truth of everyday life, constructing stories that make meaning about their experiences, and communities in Oxford and beyond.

S ST 537 – Documenting the South in Film – Prof. Angela L. Tucker

  • This course equips students to engage documentary practice critically and ethically from concept through distribution while collaborating with real-world partners. Through the production of a short film profiling a Mississippi-based artist, students apply these skills to create a professional work grounded in community, accountability, and creative rigor.
