Here are two versions of the 2011 University of Mississippi in Southaven Institutional spots we produced last month. For more information on UM Southaven click here.
Ole Miss Rifle
Here is the final cut of the promotional spot we did for The Ole Miss Women’s Rifle Team a few weeks back. Special thanks to Coach Boothe and the Rifle team for allowing us to come out and shoot, especially Senior Colleen Tillson. Best of luck to the team as they continue their season.

Sarah's got an eye for Ole Miss
Sarah Kellum is a student-worker of ours who’s interest lie in cinematography. Her first solo flight with a video-camera in hand was last week, and here is what she cut together from her first time out with the Canon XL-1. Over the summer, Sarah will be working with our Panasonic HD cameras, as well as trying her hand at 16mm film, so be on the look out for more campus shots from Sarah!
Rock It!
As a part of the week of service leading up to the inauguration of Chancellor Jones, we will be producing a retrospective look at the variety of service projects that are happening on campus. One of the events that happened last night was the “Rock the Bus” where Graduate School members collected school supplies for Mississippi Teacher Corps teachers. In addition, we’ve been following work done by the previous Academic Network piece, the Civil Legal Clinic, the School of Accountancy’s Tax Aid clinic, Computer Science’s grade school computer refurbishment program, and the Intensive English Program’s world mural fundraiser. Check back soon for more info and the finished video.
Speaker's Edge makes the "Cut"
Here is the latest addition to our series of academic profiles. This video highlights the Speaker’s Edge competition at the School of Business Administration. Our goal is to produce around 10 – 15 more of these profile videos over the course of the semester so be on the lookout for new additions.
The Mississippi Teacher Corps
Here is the newest addition to the SEC Academic Network site. This video profiles the Mississippi Teacher Corps housed at the University of Mississippi. It focuses on recent Teacher Corps grad Danielle Hall who teaches math at H.W. Byers High School outside of Holly Springs. Special thanks to Ben Guest, Andy Mullins, Danielle and her entire class for their help with this video. The Teacher Corps truly is an amazing program and a welcomed addition to this series that highlights the programs and people of Ole Miss.

2009 University of Mississippi Institutional Spots
“Tough Times”
“Lunches and Learning”
“Landmines and Levees”
Here are the 2009 University of Mississippi Institutional Spots that we have produced over the course of the semester for University Brand Services.
Experience Ole Miss
This was the intro video we produced for the 2009 Alumni Hall of Fame Ceremony. It offers a brief look back at where this University has come and where it’s going and serves as good example of the mission of this department and the need to document the stories of this University. Produced by Micah Ginn and Matthew Graves. Edited by Matthew Graves. Happy Thanksgiving!
Ole Miss E-Appeal Video
Promotional video produced for the E-Appeal fundraising email at the University of Mississippi. Produced by the Media and Documentary Projects Center. Edited by Matthew Graves
Tuttle on the Job
Media and Documentary Projects utility player Karen Tuttle got some time behind the camera this last week.
Karen covered the Residential College grand opening as well as the first in the Overby Center Gathering in the Grove series featuring Charles Eagles on Friday.
She also recorded oral histories for the School of Journalism on Monday. Nice work Karen!
Crunch Time!
The Media and Documentary Projects team hit the field today with Coach Houston Nutt to shoot “Crunch Time.” This spot, featuring the partnership between Coke, the University of Mississippi Athletics Department, MDP, and the campus Green Initiative will play on the giant screen at the beginning of the 4th quarter in an effort to fire the crowd up for the last quarter and promote recycling inside the stadium. When you see coach Nutt on the big screen, pick up an empty plastic bottle, crunch it loudly, then find one of the new recycle bins on your way out of the stadium.
SEC Academic Network
Matthew Graves has spent the last several weeks producing profiles for the launch of the SEC Academic Network and the first batch is fresh from the oven. Over the course of the year we hope to produce 20 to 25 profiles of departments, programs, and events on campus for the world to see on the academic network. We believe this is a great opportunity to share the things we already know to be outstanding about the University of Mississippi with the rest of the world. Great work Matthew!
Chancellor Jones is a standup guy.
Matthew and Micah (and crew) shot our new chancellor this morning in the circle as part of the university’s fall ad campaign. Chancellor Jones nailed his first standup for us and I expect you will see him grace the pages of our blog many times to come.
It's All Academic (Network)

Matthew Graves has been hustling this last couple of weeks to produce the first 5 profiles to be featured on the Ole Miss channel of the SEC Academic Network. Pictured here is an interview with Provost Morris Stocks about the School of Accountancy’s success in placing its graduates in jobs and graduate school . This channel, broadcast on ESPN360 and part of the contract with ESPN to broadcast SEC sports, is designated solely for academic content. The Media and Documentary Projects Center is pleased to be selected to provide that content for the University of Mississippi. We will make an announcement when the channel goes live August 12 and then over the course of the next year look for new segments showcasing the Ole Miss academic community.
Profile Me
This week I’m working on a series of profiles of several Academic programs on campus for the upcoming University of Mississippi page of the ESPN 360 SEC Academic Network website. We’re starting with pieces on the School of Accountancy, the Center for Intelligence and Security Studies, the Center for Physical Acoustics, the Medicinal Plant Garden, and UM Medical Center. These 2-3 minute profiles will offer a taste of the extraordinary work that’s being done on this campus. Watch out for the launch of the website in the middle of August. More details to come.

Are you ready for more?
We were at the Desoto Campus today shooting footage for three new spots in the “Are You Ready?” campaign series. These spots will feature current students at the University of Mississippi Desoto Campus who are all working and taking classes full time. Look out for these spots highlighting a Detective, a Teacher, and a Social Worker. It was a long (and rainy) day but we got a lot of nice footage for the spots. Check back soon for the finished cuts.
Thad Cochran Research Promo
Here is the final cut of the promotional spot for the National Center for Natural Products Research at the University of Mississippi featuring United States Senator Thad Cochran.
Engineering New Students
Here’s the short promotional video we produced for the School of Engineering. They’ll be showing this during New Student Orientation this summer.
Do you want to learn Chinese?
Here’s a sneak peak at a still from the upcoming promo video for the Chinese Language Flagship Program. Students and faculty will discuss the 4-5 year intensive language program that’s turning heads all over the country for it’s success rate of producing students proficient in Chinese in four years. Of course we have to get our logo represented so here’s a look at the design for the graphics. It was made entirely using Adobe After Effects. Special thanks to Andrew Kramer at VideoCopilot for his extremely helpful tips and tutorials.
2009 Commencement Address
2009 Commencement Address by Bob Schieffer
Here’s the 2009 Commencement Address at the University of Mississippi with CBS anchor Bob Schieffer. Mr. Schieffer is introduced by Ole Miss Chancellor Robert Khayat.
Up in the air
If you’ve seen Terrico White play basketball, you know he spends a lot floating above the hardwood. Here’s version #2 of his “Are You Ready?” spot.
Let's End With Japanese
So here it is. The last Intensive English Program Promo…for now. Special thanks to Nelson Lopez for his help with the project. For more information on IEP click here.
How About Korean?
As promised, here’s the Korean language version of the promotional spots for the Intensive Language Program. Thankfully, I’ve been given a bit of a reprieve since they haven’t been able to round up an Arabic student yet so the last version until the summer will be Japanese. So watch out. That spot will be up here before you can say こんにちは!
It's Getting Intense
Check out the Spanish language promo that Matthew Graves produced for the Intensive English Program. This is the first in a series of promotions for the IEP that will offer students around the globe info about the program in their native language. Check back soon (hopefully) for more versions including Korean, Chinese, and Japanese.
"Hit the (five minute) showers!!"
As part of last week’s Green Week here at Ole Miss, we worked up a special commercial to run at the Sunday afternoon baseball game. Assistant A.D. Jamil Northcutt came up with the hard-charging “Skipper Green” as the green-awareness coach for the Ole Miss Athletics Offices. As you can see from the commercial, Skipper Green has an aggressive method for message delivery.
The production spanned Thursday afternoon and all day Friday for shooting and editing. Student-workers Alyssa Manhold and Hunter Palmer pitched in on the shoot and we couldn’t have done it without them. Matthew Graves was, as always, keeping the whole thing together through a frantically-paced shoot.
Thanks to Jamil Northcutt, Pete Boone, and everyone in athletics who took time out of their day to help spread the word on Green Week. We had a lot of fun making the spot.

1971 Ole Miss Recruiting Film unearthed
I don’t know much about this film. It is a part of our archive here at the Media and Documentary Projects Center, and was produced by our staff 38 years ago. The title on the film canister says “1971 Recruiting Film”. It might be missing a narration track, as there is no voice-over at all. It is a bit disjointed, but nonetheless a nice slice-of-life look at the Ole Miss campus in the early 70’s.
This film transfer is part of our ongoing efforts to preserve the film history of the University. I’ll try to keep posting some of these films as I get them transferred and preserved. If you have any questions about this film, give us a call at 662-915-3475.
Intensive English
Matthew Graves is in the studio today with students from the University of Mississippi Intensive English Program. He is producing a series of web videos for prospective students in their native languages. Stay tuned for the finished series.
