Telling the stories of the most storied place

The Southern Documentary Project is an institute of the Center for the Study of Southern Culture and uses documentary film and audio to further the Center’s mission to investigate, interpret, and teach about the American South.

SouthDocs employs professional documentary and narrative filmmakers who make films while teaching and mentoring students in the Center’s Southern Studies program, which offers both undergraduate and graduate degrees. SouthDocs began as an entity within the University of Mississippi’s marketing and communications division, but over the years became more and more involved with the production of documentary films about the South. After years of partnership, SouthDocs officially became an institute of the University of Mississippi’s Center for the Study of Southern Culture in 2012.
