Melanie Ho

Melanie Ho, Assistant Professor of Practice with the Southern Documentary Project, is a queer Vietnamese American Filmmaker with roots in Florida and Mississippi. She has navigated much of her life through observation. Mel began noticing this while trying to process her parents’ haunting of the war in Vietnam. This relationship with the act of looking and making connections to memories shows up in her own work and artistic practice.

Through a deliberately paced observational and poetic mode, Melanie’s intention is to allow the audience to become observers and grounded within the place of the film. She wants them to notice the beauty of the mundane and the details of how bodies move through space.

Mel is an inaugural CAAM + NOVAC SAUCE Fellow, NeXt Doc Fellow and Gotham + HBO Documentary Development Initiative Fellow.
